In the book of Hebrews in the New Testament part of the Bible,
we read, "And let us consider how to provoke (or motivate) one
another to love and good deeds, not neglecting to meet together,
as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the
more as you see the day (of Christ’s return) approaching."
Hebrews 10:24–25
Logs burn brightly and very hot as they are put together, but, if
they are separated from one another, the light and heat quickly
goes away. To be the light of the world, as Jesus said his
followers would be, we must be together.
Christ United Methodist Church exists for the same reasons that
every other local church exists: to worship and to serve God, the
Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. We gather together each Sunday
morning for worship, and then, with the light and heat we share
with each other through Jesus, we go forth to love our neighbors
as we want our neighbors to love us.
Along with worship services, we gather together to encourage one
another through prayer meetings and Bible studies, fellowship
dinners, and group outreach opportunities, such as blessing the
elementary school directly across the street from us. Our church, like every other local church, is an outpost of God's
presence, God's grace, God's love in a world beset with many
problems. We desire to fulfill as individuals, as couples, as
families, and as a church Jesus’ command: "So let your light
shine before others that they may see your good works and glorify
your Father in heaven." (Matthew 5:16) You are welcome to
come and allow Christ United Methodist Church to shine that
much more brightly through your presence.
With you in God's great grace. Pastor Gary Eldred
